Spotlight: Hulbert Softball Looks to Build with Experience and Youth

After a rebuilding year in 2024, Hulbert Riders head coach Dewayne Hammer is entering the new season with optimism and focus. His goal? To blend veteran leadership with a fresh wave of young talent and create a team that can grow together.

“We have four returning starters and a new crew of young girls coming in, so I’m hoping we mix well and compete,” said Hammer.

That mix of experience and youth will be the key to the Riders’ success as they look to take the next step forward.

Leadership You Can Count On

Leading the way is senior Sadie Chambers, a four-year starter who has been a cornerstone of the program since her freshman season. Her resume speaks for itself: first-team all-conference and district player of the year honors in 2024.

“Sadie is a four-year starter and was first team all-conference and district player last season,” Hammer noted.

Chambers’ impact goes beyond stats—she provides stability and leadership on both sides of the ball. As younger players adjust to the speed and intensity of varsity competition, her presence will be a steady anchor.

Rising Star Power

Another player drawing attention is sophomore Gracie Conrad, who made an immediate impact as a freshman.

“Gracie is a first team all-conference player,” Hammer said.

With a strong bat and defensive versatility, Conrad gives the Riders a dynamic weapon who can shift momentum in critical moments. Her early success has the coaching staff excited about her potential as both a present contributor and future star of the program.

Building for the Present—and the Future

Coach Hammer understands that competing in a tough schedule isn’t easy, but he believes this team has the right mindset. The Riders will rely heavily on internal development, with Hammer emphasizing effort, attitude, and teamwork as keys to growth.

With seasoned leaders like Chambers and emerging standouts like Conrad, Hulbert softball is laying the foundation not only for this season, but for the long-term success of the program.

At Tahlequah Family Vision Clinic, we love celebrating local athletes and teams who play with determination, teamwork, and vision. Coach Hammer and the Riders embody those values as they head into another exciting season of Hulbert softball.
